Compare like with like
Review candidate samples together under consistent lighting. Note colour, surface appearance, opacity and handle. Keep the reference sample labelled so that the team can identify the exact material being discussed.
Consider the garment
Drape a sample and, where practical, make a trial garment. Assess whether the fabric supports the intended silhouette and sewing method. A swatch is a starting point; the garment and its care routine add important context.
Record measurable requirements
Appearance and hand feel should sit alongside agreed composition, weight, width and construction. Where shrinkage, colourfastness or other performance matters, agree suitable testing and acceptance criteria with the supplier.
Approve a controlled reference
Record the approved sample, shade and specification together. Note any agreed changes before bulk production. Retain a copy for comparison when the order arrives and for later replenishment discussions.
